Cpl Charles Lewis was raised at Turnersville. "Bill" as he was known had been in the US Army for four years. Fourteen months of those years had been spent in the South Pacific, where he was with the anti-aircraft department of the heavy artillery. He wore two stars representing major engagements. He was severely wounded at Biak. He wore a purple heart indicating the order of the Purple Heart. He and his brother had spent Christmas of 1943 together in Australia. Survivors include his father and stepmother; two brothers; one sister.
