"Death came Monday noon in Pacific Grove, California, to Cleon Emery, 80, resident of Barlow from 1917 until September 1952 when he went south to live with his only daughter, Mrs. Rollin (Lois) Wilson at Pacific Grove. Mr. Emery had been ill since early winter and for several weeks was a patient at the Oak Knoll Navel Hospital in Oakland.
He was returned to the home of Mr. And Mrs. Wilson by ambulance before Christmas with his daughter and Mrs. Wilson's mother, from Washington, D.C., caring for him. The body is being brought north for burial beside the late Mrs. Emery in Belle Passi cemetery. Funeral services will be held from the Ringo Mortuary at Woodburn, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev., Paul N. Roth, Pastor of Calvary Mennonite church at Barlow, of which Mr. Emery had been an attendant since its establishment in 1944 and a member since 1950. Veteran of the Spanish-American war and a member of James U. Campbell camp, United Spanish War Veterans, at Oregon City, Mr. Emery was born in Plainville, Minnesota, December 9, 1873. He and Nellie
Oathout were married in Appleton, Minn., August 26, 1903, and came to Oregon and Barlow in 1917. She passed away January 5, 1950, at age of 73. He is survived by their only daughter, Lois Wilson, two granddaughters, Dorothy Hutchings, a student at the University of California, Berkeley; and Mary Lou Hutchings of Pacific Grove; a brother in the east and a sister in Canada. He was the brother-in-law of Chester W. Oathout of Elliott Praire. Mrs. Wilson is coming north for her father's funeral, and will be with her uncle and aunt, Mr. And Mrs. Oathout. Her father's home at Barlow is rented to Mr. And Mrs. E.F. Barger."
