Ludd Delanson Corbin was born the 21st of May 1849, one of 11 children born to Violetta "Vilately"GAYLORD 1812–1896 and her husband Chauncey Hill Corbin 1808-1884 of Albany Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, USA.

Children born to: CHAUNCEY & VIOLETTA CORBIN:

1 - Hepburn Corbin 1831 – 1832
2 - Ellen Elizabeth Corbin 1833 – 1909
3 - Olive Melvina Corbin 1834 –
4 - Orrin Augustus Corbin 1836 – 1924
5 - Oscar Willington Corbin 1838 – 1907
6 - Joseph Gaylord Corbin 1840 – 1878
7 - Pamela Sophia Corbin 1842 – 1866
8 - John Leroy Corbin 1844 – 1906
9 - William Pierce Corbin 1846 – 1918
10 - LUDD DELANSON Corbin 1849 – 1885
11 - Lucy Violette Corbin

Ludd Corbin was baptised at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Evergreen, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. The date given is 1848-1917 without exact date.

At the age of one, Ludd Corbin was living with his family in Albany, Bradford, New York. The 1850 Census makes it difficult to decipher since it only gives the initials of each family member, but all match his family. In the 1860 Census, only 8 of the family remains in Albany, Bradford County, New York consisting of Chauncey 52, Voletta 48, Oscar W. 21, Joseph 19, Sophia 17, William 13, Delanson 11, and Lucy 8. Ten years later, in 1870, C.H. (Chauncey) Corbin 62, his wife, Violetta 58, 3 sons: J.G. 28, William 22, L.D. (Ludd) 21, daughter, Lucy 18, and Bernice KELLOGG age 9 were all living together in Albany.

BELOW - AFTER MARRIAGE -

On the 14th of January 1871 Ludd Delanson Corbin, age 21, took Miss Florence S COLEMAN 1854-1919 in Holy Matrimony in Monroeton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, USA. Florence was the daughter of Oren H Coleman 1827-1903 and his wife - a TWIN, Susan B PALMER 1830-1916.

By the 1880 Census, Florence and husband Ludd Corbin were now the parents of 4 children: Lottie E. age 8, Berthie A. age 5, Son, Leslie O. age 3, and Rosie D. age 11 months. However, little baby Jennie May Corbin was born the 6th of March 1874 and died the 16th of May 1874 only 2 months old. By 1886 the Corbin family had now reached 10 members - Ludd, Florence, and:

Children of Ludd & Florence Corbin:

1 - Charlotte "Lottie" Elizabeth Corbin 1872–1937
2 - Jennie May Corbin 1874–1874 died age 2 months
3 - Bertha "Berthie" Viola Corbin 1874–1920
4 - Leslie Oliver Corbin 1877–1889 died age 12
5 - Rose Adelle Corbin 1880–1947
6 - Orrin Arthur Corbin 1881–1966
7 - MARY JANE Corbin 1884–1963
8 - Olivetta "Olive" M. Corbin 1886–1937

Remember, this was a long time before birth control and large families were normal.

A HORRIFIC Accident happened on the 26th of March 1885, while tending to his farm, Ludd Delanson Corbin was Gored by a Bull resulting in his death. Ludd was only 36 years, 10 months, and 5 days old - so Young! Now wife, Florence, grief stricken with a brand new baby to raise was left alone to raise their remaining 7 children. She never remarried.

Ludd D Corbin has 2 Cemetery Markers in 2 Different Cemeteries:
1) I am inclined to think he is originally buried at the CORBIN-KING Cemetery (see Source below) since it is in Albany, New York where the family was living at the time. Plus, it is very expensive to transfer a body to another cemetery, making me feel this is the most logical place he would be buried.
Note, his son, Leslie Oliver Corbin born 2nd July 1877 and died 26th Nov 1889 at the age of 12 years 4 months 25 days is also buried at CORBIN-KING Cemetery with his own marker. This makes me feel that they both are at this cemetery.

FROM CORBIN-KING CEMETERY ONLINE:
Corbin Leslie O. Nov.27.1890 12-4-25
Corbin L.D. Mar.26.1885 36-10-5

Also Note: CORBIN-KING CEMETERY online has ages at death, they are also buried there with Ludd Corbin's parents, Chauncey & Violetta Corbin. At the Floral Park Cemetery, the dates are given but NOTICE ERROR: LUDD CORBIN died in 1887 instead of 1885. Hmmm, family members sometimes make mistakes on death records, and I think this is one of them.

NOTE - Since last child could NOT have been born one full year After her father's death, it is reasonable to assume that the CORRECT year of death is 1887, of which I will use.

Now, they are both also listed at a 2nd Cemetery:

Floral Park Cemetery in Johnson City, BROOME COUNTY, New York.
This LARGE MARKER has 4 Names engraved on it:
1 - LUDD D CORBIN 1849-1887
2 - FLORENCE S - HIS WIFE 1854-1919
3 - LESLIE O 1877-1889 (this is son)
4 - BERTHA V SLINGERLAND 1875-1920 (this is married daughter)

Now, consider moving 2 bodies from Bradford County to another Cemetery in Broome County, New York. I think the cost would be too much to do so, however, I have no knowledge about their financial situation. I come to the conclusion that Ludd and Leslie Corbin's names were added onto the Cemetery Marker of Ludd's wife for recognition only and that their remains are at the CORBIN-KING Cemetery.

My Father-in-Law, John Ellsworth Whittemore 1911-1983, Grandson of Ludd Corbin supplied me with the photos and information on his family. I am blessed and honored to write this Memorial for our Family to treasure.
