Earl Albert Groo, age 83, died Friday, August 5, 1994 in Orem, Utah of causes incident to age.

He was born April 21, 1911 in Alpine, Utah to Milton M. Groo and Martha Leonora Marsh Groo.

His mother passed away when Earl was 10 days old, so he was raised by his mother's sister, Elizabeth Marsh Devey and her husband Alvey J. Devey.

He married Melba Frank in 1929.

They were the parents of two children.

They were later divorced.

He married Nellie Jacobson June 15, 1936.

Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

They are the parents of eight children.

Earl grew up in Alpine and attended schools there and in American Fork. He had three brothers and two sisters, three foster brothers and three foster sisters. In 1941 Earl went to welding school.

After Pearl Harbor was bombed, he went to work in the shipyards in Wilmington, California. Following his work there, he returned home to Provo.

He also worked at Ironton, the Union Pacific Railroad, Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Plant, and Geneva Steel where he was employed as a crane operator from 1946 until he retired in 1976.

He enjoyed being outdoors and loved the mountains.

He spent many enjoyable hours camping, hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and was a high priest.

He was a member of the Lakeside 7th Ward at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife Nellie of Provo; nine children, Peggy (Harold Draney) of Bartlesville, Okla.; Leonard (Irma) Groo of Kearns, Denis (Nancy) Groo of Provo, Roger (Pam) Groo of Vernal, Dallas Reed (Janice) Groo of Lindon, Richard Alan (JoAnn) Groo of West Jordan, Neldon (Peggy) Groo of Provo, Don (Elizabeth) Groo of Bennion, Lee Ann (Merrill Brockbank) of Provo; two sisters, Goldie Strong and Blanche Bennett. His posterity includes 37 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, JoAnn; one grandson, one great-grandson, six brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 10, 1994, 11 a.m. at the Lakeside 7th Ward Chapel, 2225 West 620 North, Provo.

Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday at the ward chapel one hour prior to services.

Interment, Provo City Cemetery.
