He returned to his home in Georgia.
In 1870 he is listed on the Walton Co., GA census. Between 1870 and 1880 he moved his family to Blount County, AL. He is listed as a farmer on the Blount County Census. Children, John Asberry, Sarah Frances, and William Hillard is not listed so they have already married and have their own home.
He and his wife Elizabeth lived the remainder of their life in Blount County.

When moving in the 1870's & 1880's you don't usually move alone. My research shows me that several of Elizabeth's family came with them or if not with them in the same time frame.
Elizabeth's sister Mary Polly Thompson and husband Gideon Hendricks settled around what is known as Hendricks, AL. Brother James Bascom Thompson and wife Mary Brantley settled in Blount Co., Sister, Huldah Thompson and husband Reuben S. Harrison settled in Cullman Co. AL. Sister, Ellender Thompson and husband William E. Odum settled in Jefferson Co. AL.
Can you blame them for coming to North Alabama. It's a beautiful place to live.
