Sam Barsi was born in the Golden Prairie area (Section 17-14-27-W3) of Saskatchewan on July 31, 1913. When he was two, his parents moved the family to the Kennedy District area of Sask. and Sam grew up the family farm there, the buildings of which were situated on NE 19-12-3-W2, only a few miles west of the town of Kennedy. In 1936 Sam begin farming in the Montgomery District on SE 17-13-3-W2, which was land that his father had purchased several years earlier. This farm was approx. 6 miles north west of Langbank. On Nov.5, 1937 Sam married Irene Dorothy Penney. They raised their four children, Harvey, Eleanor, Edwin and Edgar on their farm. All of their children attended the Montgomery Country School and the Langbank High School. Sam and Irene mixed farmed for many decades, and took pride in always having an excellent garden, including many fruit trees. In their later farm years, they sold their livestock and grain farmed, which than enabled them to spend their winters in Calgary, Alberta. When time permitted, Sam enjoyed hunting and fishing. Also once they had sold their livestock, Sam and Irene enjoyed trips in their "Funcraft" all across Canada, the northern United States and Alaska.
