Jay Cooley Hollingsworth, 92, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in a local care facility.
She was a retired teacher of Beauregard and Calcasieu Parish with approximately 33 years of service. She received her bachelors' degree from Northwestern State University and her master's from Stephen F. Austin University and her masters plus 30 from McNeese State University.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy Hollingsworth and wife, Dr. Debra of Lake Charles, LA; grandchildren, Ashley Pitman and husband, Jeff of Youngsville, LA, Donna Hightower and husband, Jared of Lake Charles, LA, David Wyatt and wife, Andrea of Carlyss, LA; great grandchildren, Allie, Jacob, and Jack Pitman of Youngsville, LA, Hayden, Haylie, and Maycie Hightower of Lake Charles, Dylan and Abby Wyatt of Carlyss. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Murphy Hollingsworth, five sisters and three brothers.
Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Rev. Bill Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. til time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity, or church, of one's choice, or the McNeese State Foundation designated the Department of Nutrition and Family Studies, P.O.
