Dorothy Church Ballard, 73, went home to God on March 21, 1999.
Mrs. Ballard was born in Norfolk, to the late Arthur and Hattie Church. She was retired from the Norfolk Public School System as a teacher. As a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she always gave her love unconditionally.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Ballard Thacker of Chesapeake; her son, James L. Ballard Jr. of Norfolk; two sisters, Mina Carson of Norfolk and Harriet Miskell of Chesapeake; her brother, Robert Church of Norfolk; her grandchildren, Michael Todd Herrell of Virginia Beach, Shane Eric Herrell of Newark, Del., Kevin C. Herrell of Chesapeake and Patricia Ballard of Millerstown, Pa.; and two great-grandsons, Zachery Todd Herrell and Payton Thomas Herrell of Virginia Beach.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, by Pastor Lamar Sentell. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
