Gone to Rest

Hosts of friends and brethren in the Southwest will be saddened to learn of the sudden death at Hereford, on last Monday, the 22nd inst. At nine a.m. of Singing Evangelist R.S. Coward. Mr. Coward, was a gospel singer of wide reputation and of great influence through his work. Some of the songs written by himself are already household treasures among the people, although he was yet a young man at the time of his home-going. For twelve years he sung the Gospel with great power, and many a redeemed soul will honor the sainted one who was blessed means of bringing him to the Savior.

Bro Coward was born in Franklin County, Mississippi, June 6th, 1865, and came to Texas at the age of seventeen years. He graduated at Baylor University. Three children and a second wife are left to mourn his departure. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Hereford on Tuesday following the demise, Revs J.D. Ballard, E.A. Wesson and McGee participating in the service. The song, "Will there be any Stars in my Crown?", the last which the sweet singer was heard to sing, was sung as the body was borne to its place before the alter. A large number of people were present at the obsequies of the good man. It was good to know him.
