Funeral Services to celebrate the life of Elsie F. Dooley 90, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa, will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010, at Central Church of Christ, 4900 Northwest Blvd, Davenport. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St. Davenport. Additional visitation will be on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Elsie died Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park, after a brief illness. Elsie Florence Conger was born February 6, 1920 in Massena, Iowa , the daughter of John and Mary (Kerr) Conger. She was united in marriage to Alvin Jacob Dooley, March 19, 1939 in Bayard, Iowa. He preceded her in death March 19, 2006.
Elsie was a longtime member of Central Church of Christ. She was employed for over 21 years at Bishops Cafeteria in Davenport. Elsie was one that never let your ice tea or water glass be empty. She was a very kind and loving waitress, always willing to help and loved to give hugs. Elsie has crocheted over 500 blankets for her family and friends. She also made hats, booties and baby blankets and was crocheting up until a week before her death. .
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Iowa Masonic Health Center, Bettendorf.
Survivors included her children; Dan Dooley, Eldridge, Richard Dooley (Dian), Lowden, Iowa and Hazel Gast, Collinsville, Oklahoma, 23 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, brothers; Lonnie Conger, Dale Conger and Marvin Conger, all of Davenport and Gerald Conger, Pennsylvania.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, a son Terry Dooley and an infant daughter Shirley.
