Son of Lewellen Eckles & Elizabeth Reese. On 13 Dec 1876, Dinwiddie Co., Jno. T. Eckles married Amelia/Permelia F. Bishop. She was born 1858, Lunenburg Co., the daughter of Alfred Bishop & Elizabeth Robertson.

In 1900 they lived in Darvills Twp, south of Waqua Creek, Dinwiddie CO, VA and had the following children living at home;
