Wilford Hockett many years a resident of Mills Township, died at his home near Dudleyville, March 4,1904.
Mr. Hockett was born December 16, 1833, north of Highland, Illinois. Second son of John and Annie Hockett, who came to this country in 1818.

Mr. Hockett came to this county in 1858 and bought a farm east of Dudleyville, where he lived most of the time until his death. He married Orpha Witham in 1858 and to them were born eight children, one of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Hockett died in December 1879 and in June 1881 he was again married to Mary E. Akin of Pleasant Mound, who with seven children survive.

Mr. Hockett was the father of fifteen children. The Rev. John Hockett of Kansas, Otis, Wallace, Simeon and
Mrs. Annie McCasland of Dudleyville, all by his first wife and seven younger children by his second wife, all of whom are at home, survive him. Oliver Hockett of this city is a brother and Mrs. Becky Hobbs of Lebanon is a sister. Fred Morse of Coffeen and Charles Morse who recently moved to Kansas are half-brothers.
