Jack Hyer, 72, Dies in Kansas Home
A. J. Hyer, former Sutton resident, died Thursday in his home in Coffeyville, Kansas, according to word received by relatives here. He had suffered a paralytic stroke and had been ill since that time. Mr. Hyer was born near Sutton, April 1, 1873, the son of Adam J. and Hannah Hutchison Hyer. He was married to Lillian Bender, also a native of Braxton County. While a resident of Sutton, he was engaged in the drug store business and served 2 terms as deputy sheriff under the late John Adams. He left here about 30 years ago and lived for a time in Oklahoma, later going to Coffeyville, where he was employed by the Sinclair Oil Co. in a refinery. He retired about 4 years ago. Mr. Hyer is survived by his wife and three children, John Hyer of St. Louis, Mo.; Joe Hyer of Houston Tex.; and Miss Betty Hyer at home. One sister, Mrs. Wilbur Baxter of Sutton, one half-sister, Mrs. Susan Sprigg, of Sutton and one half-brother, George Hyer, of Virginia, also survive. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p. m. at Coffeyville
