1st Corporal. 2nd Sergeant John Simin Briggs served in H Company of the 30th Tennesse Infantry, he was captured at Fort Donelson. After serving time as a Federal prisoner of war, he was paroled and or exchanged at Vicksburg. He was appointed corporal and later became a Sergeant. He was wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga, on September 19 1863 in an attempted ambush on Horseshoe Ridge. The Sergeant died from the injuries he sustained in the Battle of Chickamauga on September 23, 1863. He is most likely buried at the battleground close to where the infirmary tent was located.
