George Ticknor Curtis was an American author, writer, historian and lawyer. He was a son of merchant ship Captain Benjamin Curtis and Lois Robbins. He was a brother to US Supreme Court Associate Justice Benjamin Robbins Curtis.

George was born in Watertown, MA, and graduated from Harvard in 1832. He went on to Harvard Law School and graduated from there. He first practiced Law in Boston, then went on to New York City, where he became a very successful patent lawyer. Clients included Samuel F. B. Morse, Charles Goodyear and Cyrus McCormick.

His law practice took him in different directions, including acting as co-counsel for Dred Scott in his appearance before the US Supreme Court, at the time his own brother, Benjamin Robbins Curtis, was sitting on the Bench as an Associate Justice!

George went on to become an author of biographies and books on Law.
