Former Resident Of County Dies in San Antonio
Died, on Wednesday, July 29, 1925, Mathew Abner Avant, beloved husband of Mrs. M. A. Avant, in his 63rd year. Besides his widow he is survived by two sons, Bob and Ben, and one daughter. Miss Blanche Avant of Marfa, Texas; two brothers, Bob of Dilley, Texas, and Walter of Jourdantown, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Laird of Wrightsboro, Mrs. M. G. Lowery of Sulphur, Okla., and Mrs. C. L. Lowery of Del Rio, Texas. Mr. Avant was for several years sheriff of Atascosa county. At the time of his death he was district clerk at Marfa, Tex. The remains will lie in state at the home of Mrs. Zinzmeyer, 920 Cameron St. from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Shipment to Marfa on Thursday night by Shelley Undertaking Company.-San Antonio Express.
Mr. Avant was a native of Gonzales county and grew to manhood here, having been born and reared in what was once known as the old Clabertown community, beyond Wrightsboro. He was a son of Abner Avant, one time prominent pioneer farmer of that section.
Mr. Avant left here probably than thirty years ago. He still has many old boyhood friend in this county, among them Walter and Nathan Cook of this city, who will be grieved to learn of his death.
