Obituary, "New Talker," York, NE, __ Oct 1900:
On Thursday morning (27 Sep 1900) of last week, at about 5:30 o'clock occurred the death of H. H. Bowker. Upon retiring the night before Mr. Bowker seemed to be enjoying his usual health and was sick only a few hours. He was stricken with apoplexy and though in a state of unconsciousness seemed to be suffering great pain.
Homer H. Bowker was born in the state of Vermont on July 3, 1844. He was an old soldier, enlisting in the regular army at Stevenson (sic) county, Ill., when he moved there in 1858, He served in the 16th Ill. Vol. Infantry for three years and in the 2d regiment Illinois veterans for one year. His army career was brilliant and typical of true Americanism.
Mr. Bowker was married to Alice M. Hotchkiss on the 18th of June, 1866, and she and a son and daughter survive him. He has been a resident of York county for twenty-seven years and York for nineteen. He was always a useful citizen, foremost in public enterprises and active to the good of the community.
Deceased was a member of Co. A., O.U.W. lodge and carried $2,000 life insurance. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Friday afternoon and were beautifully expressive, Rev. O. W. Fifer conducting. The remains were interred in Greenwood.
