A native of Jackson County, where he lived most of his life, he was the son of the late Van and Ernie Stewart Childers.
He retired from General Motors and the N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance department.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Duane, Morton and Frank Childers; and one sister, Thelma Bryson.
