Obituary for Charles Benjamin Barker: Charles Benjamin Barker, son of John Mathew and Alice (Putman) Barker was born August 27, 1883 near Confidence in Wayne County, Iowa and died April 26. 1956 at the age of 72 in Ellensburg, Washington where he had made his home for the past nine years. He is survived by one daughter Margit (Mrs. Eugene Morrett) of Denver, Colorado; one son John Charles Barker of Ellensburg, Washington and one granddaughter, Ramona Barker; one brother J.M. Barker of Russell; 3 half-sisters; Mrs. Clara Hixenbaugh, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Mrs. Mary Fogle, Keokuk, Iowa; and Ella Jones, Ottumwa, Iowa and half-brother J. W. Duer of Ottumwa. One half-brother, Carl Duer died in 1919. Burial was made in Ellensburg.

Charles Benjamin Barker was born to John Matthew Barker and Mary Alice Putnam in a log cabin in rural Wayne County, Iowa. His father died at age 27, when Ben was just two years old and his older brother John Milton Barker was 3.75 years. The young widow later married Andrew Gault Duer, with whom she raised the two boys and an additional family.
