Tribute was paid Sunday afternoon to Mrs. John J. Donaghy of Plymouth, Gold Star Mother who died Thursday December 8th at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, following a short illness. The Church of the Holy Spirit, of which she was a communicant, was filled with relatives and friends who came to pay final respects to their beloved relative and friend. Reverend Bayard Hancock, rector of the church officiated, and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, with Nichols Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Bearers were Stanley Cross, Waterford, Conn., Frederick Cross, Quincy, Mass., Paul Mullen, Wrentham., Massachusetts, Thomas Harvey, Franklin and Calvin Carpenter, Plymouth.
Mrs. Julia A. Donaghy was born in Maple Grove, P.Q., November 24, 1883, daughter of Henry and Alicia (Annesley) Amadon. She was the widow of John J. Donaghy who died in 1951 and since his death had continued to keep her home in the Livermore section of Plymouth. Their only son, John J Donaghy, Jr, who served in the U.S. Air Force during the World War II, was lost over the Mediterranean in active service. She was very active in her church and a past president of the church unit, the Episcopal Women, and was its oldest and most loyal member. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit of Plymouth and the Pemigewasset Woman's Club. Known to her host of friends as "Ma" Donaghy, her home was always open to them. When the hospital was located in its former location just above her home, several nurses had made their home with her, and it continued to be a second home for many of them. She was always cheerful, thoughtful of others and ready to be of assistance wherever needed. She will be greatly missed in the community.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Marie Colon of Belleville, Ill., and Mrs. Louise Flynn of Manchester; three brothers, Hector of Manchester, Frank of Lancaster and Sam Amadon of West Lebanon, Maine; also six grandchildren. Friends extend deepest sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
Members of the Episcopal Women's group have started a fund for a memorial in honor of Mrs. Donaghy, to which they invite friends to contribute. >The Plymouth Record.
