Jo Frances Trapp Hennington Shivers, 87, a retired teacher, died January 1, 2002 at Simpson General Hospital.

Services were held at Mendenhall United Methodist Church on January 4, with burial in Mendenhall City Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mrs. Shivers was born in Nettleton on July 19, 1914 and is a native of Monroe County. After graduating in 1935 from MUW, formerly MSCW, where she was a member of the Beta Beta Beta Science Club, she moved to Mendenhall and taught fourth grade for 34 years, serving the last few years as the elementary school principal. She joined Mendenhall Methodist Church in 1935, where she was a member of the Women's Circle and the Wesley Bible Class. She enjoyed traveling, golf and playing bridge with the Magee and Mendenhall Bridge clubs.

Mrs. Shivers is survived by her husband of 29 years, R.B. Shivers; stepdaughter, Barbara Shivers Lober, and son-in-law, Bill Lober, of Galveston, Tex.; nephew, Ed Bumgardner and wife Ronda; and great-nephews, Miles, Julian and Lowell Bumgardner of Winston-Salem, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 28 years, John Hennington; parents, William L. and Lottie B. Trapp; sister, Helen Bumgardner; and nephew, Billy Bumgardner.
