He died of a "Gunshot wound of chest. Homicide." He was shot on 9/24/1936, while on duty as policeman, in Tiptonville, TN. He died 9/26/1936 at Baird-Brewer Hospital in Dyersburg, TN.

Millard Williams was killed in line of duty at Tiptonville. He was married to my great Aunt Irene Dial.

Officer Williams was shot and killed after responding to a call involving a drunk and disorderly man at a local cafe. The suspect shot Officer Williams in the chest with a 12-gauge shotgun when he was confronted by the officer. Despite being mortally wounded, Officer Williams was able to gain control of the shotgun. The suspect fled the area. The man was last scene in California but was never apprehended. Officer Williams succumbed to his wounds two days later at Brewer Hospital in Dyersburg, Tennessee. He had served with the Tiptonville Police Department for 7 years and was survived by his wife.
