He was a graduate of the University of Memphis, a founder of Wesley Homes Retirement Center, a director of the former First Exchange Bank and Lake County Utility District and a state Democratic Party executive committee member. He was also a member of the board of directors for the West Tennessee Area Council Boy Scouts of America, the University of Memphis Alumni Association and served on the Foundation Board of Dyersburg State Community College. Mr. Vaughn, the husband of Marsha Pickett Vaughn, also leaves a daughter, Michelle Vaughn Snowden of Memphis; two stepsons, Bart Pickett and Britt Pickett, both of Huntingdon; his mother, Mary Frances Sledge of Germantown; two sisters, Valery Whitfield of Fayetteville, Ark., and Rita Powell of Hot Springs, Ark., and a grandson. The family asks that any memorials be sent to Huntingdon First United Methodist Church, Tiptonville First United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Research Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
