Clifton Merit Dameron, 81, Greenfield, died at 8 a.m. today at the Waynesboro Community Hospital shortly after being admitted.
Born Jan. 8, 1878, in Nelson County, Mr. Dameron was a son of the late Nicholas and Hattie Loving Dameron. He was a member of Adial Baptist Church. Mr. Dameron was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Pearl May Miller Dameron on Jan. 21, 1958.
Survivors include two sons, Haywood F. Dameron and Clifton M. Dameron Jr., both of Afton; six daughters, Mrs. Gladys Coffey, with whom he made his home since the death of his wife, and Mrs. John Anderson, both of Route 2, Afton; Mrs. Pearl Bodkins, Staunton; Mrs. Howell Kent, Greenfield; Mrs. James E. Bright, Route 1, Waynesboro, and Mrs. Gilbert J. Propst, Lynchburg; three brothers, John Dameron, Alexandria; Mercer Dameron, Roseland, and Haywood Dameron, Wintergreen; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Etter Funeral Home by the Rev. Grafton E. Keeney. Interment will be in the Pines Chapel Cemetery near Greenville.
