Services Held Today For Roy D. Smith
Wednesday funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. in the First Methodist Church for Roy D. Smith, 76. Rev. Don Osada, pastor, officiated with burial in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Satterwhite Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith, a retired J.C. Penney employee, died early Tuesday in his home of an apparent heart attack.
Born Nov. 7, 1897 in Athens, he came to Breckenridge from Plainview in 1938. He was manager of the J.C. Penney store until his retirement and later managed a Breckenridge housing development for several years.
He married Idalia Bryant Jan. 1, 1939 in Breckenridge. She died in 1967.
Mr. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Breckenridge Masonic Lodge, Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Ora Mayfield of Corsicana and Mrs. J.R. Dunn of Athens; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ed Hatch of Lamesa; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Haskell Key, Dave Masner, Oscar West, Don Crenshaw, Ken Hinkle, and Jim Rominger.
