Melvina Catherine Mings, 89, of Scipio died at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

She was a homemaker and a member of Caldwell Chapel Separate Baptist Church in Knifley, Ky. She attended Queensville Community Church.

Funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Caldwell Chapel Separate Baptist Church, with George Hancock officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Queensville Community Church and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Caldwell Chapel Separate Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Caldwell Chapel Cemetery.

Local arrangements were made by Dove, Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mings was born in Trout Dale, Va., July 14, 1908, the daughter of Lucian and Laura Long Spence. She married David King Mings, Aug. 26, 1933. He preceded her in death Sept. 1, 1992.

Survivors include sons, William G. "Bill" Mings of Scipio and Buford R. Mings of North Vernon; a sister, Mattie Jane Spence of Scipio; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
