Howard Blaine Carnell, 65, of 8267 B Drive S. in Newton Township, a life-long Battle Creek area resident and a retired, Kellogg Co. employee, died at 5:20 a.m. today at a local hospital where he had been a surgical patient since Nov. 5.

Howard was born March 18, 1899, in Battle Creek, the son of Edward and Etta Mae (Potter) Carnell.

He was married to Orbie G. Smith, May 22, 1924, in Noblesville, Ind.

He was employed by Adolph Johnson Co. here from 1923 to 1940; by Eaton Manufacturing Co. here from 1940 to 1945 and by the Kellogg Co., in the stores department, from 1945 until retiring in September, 1962.

Mr Carnell is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Emerson (Evelyn) Blanchard of 6900 E Drive N., Mrs Dan (Frances) Latshaw of 294 Katherine St. and Mrs Thomas (Gloria Jean) Beatty of Presque Isle, Maine; three sons, Bernard E. of Coldwater, Wayne H. of 624 John Bria Rd and Spec 4 James E of Lawton Okla.; three brothers, Floyd Carnell of Bradenton Fla., Lawrence W. Carnell of 12219 3-Mile Rd and Ernest Carnell of Plainwell, and 18 grandchildren.
