Virginia was born in the New Hope Community near Hubbard, to the late Thomas Franklin and Addie (Barkley) Marr. She lived there until moving to Hubbard in 1945. Virginia married Abner Hassell in 1950 and they lived in Hubbard for the remainder of their lives. She loved making dolls and sewing and made numerous uniforms for the pep squad and majorettes at Hubbard High School over the years. Virginia also loved cooking for her family and other families in the community and was a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Abner, in 1988; a step-son, George Hassell, in 2008; brother, Thurston Marr; and sisters, Nina Lewis and Pearl Marr.
Survivors include daughter, Linda Brown and husband, John, of Hubbard; step-son, Jerry Hassell and wife, Connie, of Waco; grandson, Lynn Hassell; great-grandson, Jimmy Hassell; great-great-granddaughter, Larryn Rooks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
