John G. Adler for 50 years prominently identified with the lumber industry in the south and head of the Desoto Lumber Co. died from heart trouble last Wed. morning after being ill for only a few hours. He is survived by two daughters Miss Elizabeth and Mrs. Marie Bumpus and by two sons J.C. who was associated with him in the lumber business and W.H. an editoral writer on the Mempis Commerical Appeal.
Mr Adler was born in Wurtiemburg Germany in 1848 and moved to this country with his parents when only a lad. He was educated at Nashville, Tenn. and began his lumber career at the age of 16 with Moore, Eadler & Co. which later developed into the Cole Manufacturing Co. His advancement was rapid as indicated by the fact he later became general manager of this firm a position he held for 25 years. He left the company to spend two years in New Orleans as general manager of the Berwick Limber Co. On his return to Memphis he organized the Desoto Lumber Co. and remained at the head of this firm until his demise.
Mr Adler was a member of the Memphis Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Retail Lumber Dealers Association. He was identified with the Knights Of Columbus. Funeral was held at his home.
