Vernon Woodrow Leftwich, 82, of Bedford, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born March 18, 1919 in Bedford County, a son of the late Letcher T. Leftwich and Lillie Wright Leftwich. He was a retired press operator from Rubatex. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Overstreet Leftwich, a brother, Frank Leftwich, a sister, Clarice Woodford, a half brother, Paul Leftwich and two half sisters, Florrie L. Arthur and Lillian L. Johnson. Vernon is survived by a son, Richard Leftwich and his wife Judy; a daughter Barbara Hodges and her husband, Dennis; four grandchildren, Debra Custer, Joseph Hodges, Dennis Hodges, Jr. and Jennifer Hodges; one great grandchild, Daniel Custer; a half brother Jack Leftwich, all of Bedford; and two nephews, Raymond Woodford of Florida and Frank Leftwich, Jr. of Roanoke. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, June 9, 2001 at 11 a.m. in Cool Springs Cemetery with the Rev. David Johnston officiating. A procession will assemble at 10:15 a.m. at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home to go to the graveside service. The family will receive friends Friday, June 8; 2001 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, 586-3443.
