LJ (or Lee) was the son of Tobias BURGAMY & Sarah DECANTER. He married Elsie TANTON on 06 Dec 1854 in Washington County GA. They had ten children: Edward Tobias, William H, James Richard, John Thomas, Leonidas Jefferson Jr, Elisha Marion, Asa Francis, Sarah Ruth, Alfred Rines & Elizabeth BURGAMY.

LJ enlisted in the CSA as a Private on 08 May 1862. He fell under a train and had his left arm amputated on 20 Feb 1863.

On Wednesday December 21, Mr. L. J. Burgamy died at his home 6 miles east of Warthen. He was an old citizen of Washington County being 77 years old. He leaves 8 sons and one daughter to mourn his death. He was buried at the family burial ground where he was laid to rest by the side of his wife who died not quite three months ago. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Robert Dudley. He had many friends and relatives in this county who learned of his death with sincere sorrow.
