Mother of 15 Dies Services Friday

Funeral rites will be held at the Bokchito Church of Christ Friday, October 6, 1956, at 10:30 a.m. for Mrs. A.J. Miles (Mary Levina Hunter Gist McCarley Miles), 72 year old Durant pioneer, who died in a local hospital Wednesday after an extended illness. The mother of 8 children and 7 step children, Mrs. Miles had lived in Bryan county 45 years.

Services will be conducted by Cecil Roller, and Burial, under direction of Holmes Funeral home, will be in Bokchito cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Day West, Choc Cargill, Welden Davis, Marshall Davis, Joe Riddle and Paul Hauk.

Honorary pallbearers are Verl Martin, Babe Adams, Rollin Spence, Jess Thrasher, Louis Hampton and Red Thrasher.

Mary Levina Hunter was born September 10, 1884, to James Charles Hunter and Susan B. Jones. Corsicana, Navarro Co., Texas, Miss Mary Hunter married Samuel Gist, Samuel & Mary had Pearl Gist, Samuel passed away early in life. Mary married William Henry McCarley who had lost his wife a few years ago, leaving him to raise 7 children, William and Mary had 7 more children, William H. McCarley died December 22, 1928, Mary married A.J. Miles. Mary had lived at Bokchito many years before moving to Durant and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, A.J. Miles,; sons W.H. McCarley, Washougal, Wash., B.W. McCarley, Lawton, Ok.; Ray McCarley, Sunray, Tx.; Henry McCarley., Camas, Wash., William (Bill) McCarley of Bokchito, Ok. and Hank, Harvey and Claude McCarley of Bakersfield, Calif.; daughters, Mrs. Pearl Gist Woods & Mrs. Lillian McCarley Mooney, Bennington. Mrs . Edith McCarley Bates, Sunray, Tx.; Mrs Mary Lou McCarley Davis, Durant; Mrs Susie May McCarley Shadden, Arvin, Calif. Mrs Anna McCarley Larson, Guyman, Okla. and Mrs. Velva McCarley Wiley, Anson, Tx. and 31 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Samuel Gist, William H. McCarley, grandsons Dossie M. Bates, Jr. and Lolan Mack Bates, and grand grandsons, Jimmy Dale Batten and Eddie Dean Batten.
