He was born October 4, 1924 in Broadway, and was a son of the late Mervin Ray and Mabel Virginia Summers Harpine. He retired from Quality Feed in Broadway, where he had worked for 46 years. He was a farmer, and lived a very active life and had a great passion for doing things for others. He was an avid lover of outdoors. He loved raising and caring for his livestock. Mr. Harpine was a member of the Bethel Church of the Brethren in Mayland. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
On August 14, 1948, he married the love of his life, the former Evelyn Lohr, who survives, and they recently celebrated 61 happy and fulfilling years together. Also surviving are a son, Stanley S. Harpine, Jr. and wife Winnie of Harrisonburg; a daughter-in-law, Susie Fye of Broadway; a brother, Carroll Harpine of Broadway; three sisters, Fleta Walton of Timberville, Iva Kenny of Broadway, Florence Turner of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren, Ursula Dinkel, Stephanie Harpine, Alicia Hagen, Erin Harpine, Chad Harpine; seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son; Ernie M. Harpine, and two brothers, Linden Harpine and Arnold Harpine.
The Rev.s Donald Williams and James Eberly will conduct a graveside service on Monday 2 P.M. at the Bethel Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Mayland.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 - 4 P.M. at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
