Mr. Arnold was born in San de Fuca on Feb. 20, 1916, to Frederick and Dorothea (Grasser) Arnold. "Chuck" attended the old San de Fuca schoolhouse, where he graduated from eighth grade. He then attended and graduated from Coupeville High School, where he played football for four years.

He also served as one of the original members of the Board of Directors of the Island Savings and Loan, serving for over 30 years in that position. In addition, Chuck served as an original board member for the Island County Cemetery District 2 (Sunnyside Cemetery) from 1965 to 2000.
Chuck married Viola Sloth on Nov. 22, 1941, and the couple raised a family at the farm on Arnold Road where Chuck had grown up as a boy. In all, he resided there for a total of 89 years, prior to moving to Regency on Whidbey Retirement Community. Chuck demonstrated his generous spirit by raising chickens and a garden to give away eggs and vegetables. He also raised cattle, hogs, sheep, grain, squash and cabbage as a livelihood.
Viola passed away on Feb. 9, 1976. Chuck later married Constance "Connie" (Keester) Lang on Jan. 20, 1977. Connie preceded Chuck in death on May 25, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Martha Arnold in July 1930 and by his daughter Valerie Evelyn Arnold on Dec. 18, 2005.
