Kenneth Eugene "Gene" Smith, 86, of Columbia, formerly of Belle, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at his home. He was born on Jan. 31, 1929, in Jefferson Township, the son of Una (Pendelton) and Lesslie Edward Smith. Kenneth married Mary Dorothy Palmer of Belle, and she preceded him in death. He married Patricia A. Souder on Aug. 2, 1986, in Jefferson City; she survives of the home.
Kenneth was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, having served in the Navy and Air Force. Kenneth retired from Westinghouse in 1995. Other survivors include his brothers, Morris Smith of Battle Creek, Mich., Melvin Smith of Oklahoma City, Okla., Harold (Evelyn) Smith of Baldwin and Carlos "Mac" (Linda) Smith of Plant City, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Darrell Smith of Baldwin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the First Assembly of God Church in Columbia. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus or to the First Assembly of God Church.
