DEATH WEDNESDAY OF MRS. M. E. MORRIS
Funeral Services Held This Morning At Local Methodist Church
Mrs. Mandley E. Morris, 68, died here Wednesday after an extended illness. Funeral services were held this morning (Friday) in the Methodist Church of which she was a member. Final tribute was paid by the Rev. Joe Bridges, of Thomasville, a former pastor of the Methodist Church here, and the Rev. C. A. Morrison, present pastor. Burial was in the Arabia Cemetery several miles from here.
Mrs. Morris was the last surviving widow of a Confederate Army veteran living in Clinch County. Her husband volunteered for service in the Confederate Army on April 2, 1862, and served under Brigadier General M. L. Bowham of South Carolina and Brigadier General William Longstreet of Georgia. Mr. Morris died May 10, 1914.
Mrs. Morris was the former Bercia G. Armfield. She and Mr. Morris were married August 30, 1906 and moved to this county in 1910. The family lived on RFD 1 north of Homerville.
Survivors are two daughter, Misses Alice Morris and Marie Morris of Homerville; one son, R. M. Morris, of Homerville; two grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. H. H. Purvis of Florence S. C.(only one sister was listed in this article.)
Active pallbearers at the funeral were Messrs. J. E. Fender, E. F. Wildes, B. T. Willoughby, G. C. Pafford, G. D. Peagler, and D. M. Hughes. Honorary pallbearers were W. B. Walton, Sr., C. A. Smith, Downing Musgrove, E. L. Vickers, G. C. Hughes, Sr., and J. F. Poppell.
