Vincent Routt, who was adjudged insane, was taken to the poor farm yesterday.

Sunday afternoon Vincent Routt who was adjudged insane sometime since, appeared at his former home 13 Constitution street and assaulted his wife. He had escaped from the Poor farm where he had been confined. James Routt struck him and locked him up in a room. Officers Fleming and Stafford found the old lady in a serious condition and in another room saw the old man lying on his face and moaning. He was taken in a hack to the jail. James Routt broke two of his fingers on the old man and had them set by the doctor. No arrests have been made.

Sheriff Thomas Evans, County Clerk Wilhite and Superintendent Julian of the poor farm, went to Atchison Friday, where they placed the following persons in the private asylum for the insane: Vincent Routt, Joseph Back, W. J. Griffith, James Wood, Tom Geraghty, Wm. Meredith and Grace Slade. This leaves eight crazy persons and five paupers at the poor farm.

DEATH OF VINCENT ROUTT - AT THE INSANE ASYLUM IN ATCHISON THURSDAY
Sometime since Vincent Routt, an aged man and old soldier of this city, was take to the insane asylum at Atchison on account of demented condition of the mind.
He has not been well for several years which, with his advance age, is supposed to have caused he unbalancing of his mind. He died at Atchison Thursday and the remains were brought to Emporia Friday for interment. The funeral took place from his former home No. 19 South Constitution street, at 4 p.m. Friday. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Sanderson, pastor of the Grace M.E. church, after which the remains were interred at Maplewood cemetery.
