John Augustinovich, age 94, a longtime Portage resident passed away on August 9, 2010. He was born on January 4, 1916 in Chicago, IL the son of Victor and Agnes Forman. John proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Panama and the Aleutian Islands. He was a staff Sergeant in charge of the anti-aircraft protecting the airstrips. In his youth he worked on a farm, then logging in the Northwoods, and then worked for U.S. Steel - Gary Works in the Wheel Mill retiring in 1974 as a supervisor with 38 years of service. He enjoyed bee keeping, fishing, woodworking, and was an avid gardener. He also loved making fishing lures and playing the harmonica. John is survived by his loving family; sons: Steven (Kay) Augustinovich of South Haven and John (Sherri) Augustinovich of Valparaiso; grandchildren: Michele (Paul) Hastings, Sharon Augustinovich, Melissa Goheen, Monica Goheen, Steven Goheen and Megan Augustinovich, great grandchildren: Ryan Hastings and Kyle Hastings; sister, LaNore Dudzik of Chicago; and other loving family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Betty Augustinovich; brothers: Jack Forman, Arthur Forman, Henry "Gordon" Forman, Emil Augustinovich, John Augustinovich and Peter Augustinovich. A visitation for John Augustinovich will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Rees Funeral Home - Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A funeral service for John Augustinovich will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2010 DIRECTLY at the First United Methodist Church of Portage, 2637 McCool Road, Portage, with Pastor Deb Rousselle officiating. Burial will be at McCool Cemetery in Portage. Memorials in John's memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Portage.
