*Note the Original German spelling of the Family Name was either Schöner or Shöener. Presumably, the spelling was changed to the present-day spelling of "Shaner" in order to 'Americanize' the Family name.

This family of Shaners are kin to the Shaners who settled in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, USA between 1793 & 1800. The Clarion County, Pennsylvania, USA Shaner family was founded by the Sons and Daughters of the Revolution War Veteran, Henry Shaner, Sr. (1757 - 1832) and his wife Mary Magdalene Sterner (1778 - 1864). Henry was 21 years older than his wife and after his death at Zionsville, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, USA in 1832, Mary accompanied her children to Lamartine in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, USA, where she died in 1864 and is buried in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery there.
