"Hood County News" Granbury, Texas Thursday, April 16, 1987 Page 1 DAVY CROCKETT KIN DIES Gladys Crockett Hendricks, 89, great-granddaughter of Texas hero, Davy and Elizabeth Crockett, died Sunday, April 12, in Granbury. She lived at 306 W. Bridge St. The Crockett family came to Hood County after Davy Crockett died at the Alamo. His widow, Elizabeth, and two of his children are buried in Acton. Funeral services for Hendricks were Tuesday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Hiram Johnson, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Granbury Cemetery under direction of Martin's Funeral Home. She was born June 4, 1897, in Hood County, daughter of the late Ashley W. and Anna Walkup Crockett. She married Raymond Hendricks March 18, 1925 in Fort Worth. A lifelong resident of Hood County, she was a graduate of Grubbs Teachers College in Arlington. She taught elementary school in the Hood County area and worked as a nurse for Dr. L. G. Ballard in the early 1940s and later in the Granbury Clinic and Hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women's Circle, the Bosque Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Woman's Wednesday Club. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Hendricks of Granbury; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Honorary bearers were E. G. Williams, Albert Porter, Ed Williams, Gail Mayo, Kermit Smith and Troy Purselley.
