Gordon C. Reese, 65, died at his home near Baileys Store in Adair County, Saturday, March 9. Funeral services were conducted Sunday by Rev. H.J. Conover, with burial following in Freedom Cemetery. Grissom Funeral Home of Columbia was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Reese was born and reared in Russell County. In 1900 he was united in marriage to Vertie Acree, and to this union five children were born, four of whom survive: Rev. O.T. Reese, Rev. O.C. Reese, O.I. Reese, and S.M. Conover. After the death of the first wife, he was united in marriage in 1914 to Mary Roy, and to this union two children were born: Roy Reese and Francis Reese. He professed faith in Christ in early life and united with Old Bethel Methodist Church, where he remained a faithful member to the end.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mary Reese, and six children listed above. Also surviving are a brother, E.L. Reese, and three sisters, Mrs. Mattie Antle, Mrs. Florence Dunbar, and Mrs. Evelyn Savage, as well as numerous other relatives and a great host of friends. Mr. Reese was a good man in every sense of the word, and he will be greatly missed, not only by the immediate family, but by the hundreds and hundreds of people who were glad to call him friend.
