THOMAS ATKERSON was born to William Atkerson and his wife (possibly Ann Wilson) in 1819 in Virginia, and he died sometime before 1900. He married MARTHA LULA CARROLL about 1842. She was born 1823 in North Carolina and was a descendant of Revolutionary War veteran, Captain James Trousdale. Martha died before 1880 in Jackson County, Alabama. In April of 1847, Tom bought just over 40 acres of land in Jackson County, Alabama where they raised their children. After Martha died, Tom married Sarah "Sally" Cummins in 1892. They had separated by 1899 and Tom was living in Oklahoma so Sally filed for divorce. I'm unsure if Tom died in Oklahoma or Alabama, but he is buried on Sand Mountain in Jackson County, Alabama with only a rock as a marker. A child or infant is buried close by him with only a red flag as a marker.
