Ruth Odette Eyre, 89, of Cowley died Wed., July 21, 2010, at North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell.

Ruth was born Dec. 10, 1920, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Karl Conrad and Cara Genevieve Cardon Klingler. After graduating from high school, she attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, and earned her teaching degree in 1941. She taught second grade at Moreland, Idaho, for two years and then attended BYU and earned her degree as a dietician. She worked for one year at Swedish Hospital in Seattle as a dietician.

While in Seattle, she met Carlyle Eyre. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on Sept. 3, 1947, and then moved to Cowley, where they have lived for the past 63 years. In 1966 Ruth returned to Ricks College for a summer semester to renew her teaching license. She then taught second grade in Lovell for two years.

In her youth Ruth enjoyed being a girl scout and eventually became a leader. She enjoyed camping and many other girl scout activities. She was an excellent swimmer and worked as a lifeguard. She enjoyed various crafts, loved to read, played the violin, sewed, and was an excellent cook. She was very good at math and chemistry.

Her five daughters were blessed by her reading, singing songs, taking them swimming in the canal, making picnic lunches, sewing clothes and helping them with projects. She was kind and caring to everyone, never saying negative things or gossiping. She was gentle, soft spoken, and had an extreme amount of patience and endurance. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and enjoyed going to the meetings and participating up until the last year and a half of her life.

Ruth was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a firm, strong testimony. She was faithful throughout her life and gave her best efforts to her callings as a Primary teacher, Young Women's teacher and compassionate service leader. She served with Carlyle for several years as a stake missionary and did name extractions for the Family History Program.

Survivors include her husband, Carlyle B. Eyre of Cowley; daughters Susan Lewis Mohlman of Spanish Fork, Utah, Marie (Charles) Larson of Orem, Utah, Genevieve Mann of Cowley, Hope (Jerry) Asay of Lovell and Carla (Don) Bisby of Anchorage, Alaska; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Ruth was preceded in death by two daughters, Julia (a twin) at age two days and Kathryn, 7, from complications of chicken pox; brothers Cardon and Quentin and sisters Cara Singleton and Dawn Webb.

Viewing and visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral Services will be held at the Cowley LDS Church on July 31, 2010, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Cowley Cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell is in charge of arrangements
