Ardmore, OK — Funeral services for Alfred McKerson, 89, will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Fred L. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
The son of Richmond and Flossie Tucker McKerson, Alfred was born August 5, 1920, in Ardmore and passed away on August 4, 2010, at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Ardmore, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 536th Signal Heavy Construction Company as a lineman, telephone and telegraph communications worker. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married the former Mazola Holman. He retired from Oklahoma Natural Gas. He enjoyed boating and worked with the Golden Gloves boxing program.
Alfred served with many organizations including, the American Legion Willie Stevenson Post 264 where he was Past Commander, Holbert Chapel C.M.E. Church, Mental Health Services of Southern Oklahoma Board of Directors, Ardmore Douglass Quarterback Club, Boy Scouts of America Arbuckle Area Council, M2JB Club and the After Six Club.
He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Flossie Ann Thurston and husband, Roy; sons, Donald Everett McKerson and wife, Brenda and Kwame Mbiti Mboya and wife, Carolyn; his brother, Hayward; grandchildren, Luke A. Stevenson II, Stephanie Caldwell, Sonya L. Stevenson, Johnny Franks, Alfred McKerson and wife, Linda, Joy L. Burkhall and husband, Robert, Roy J.B. Thurston II, Malanna Carpenter and husband, Tevis, Kanika O. McKerson, Sharifa T. McKerson and Ayo Ayinde McKerson; and great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Cana, Charlotte, Nicole, Kelvin, Patrick, Michael, Joshua, Kamila, Michael, Charles, Taylor, Aniyah, Taryn, Royal, Esaias, Laila, Jaiven, and Ano Ayinde. His extended family, Alan and Randi McCann and family and Rosetta Atkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Daisy Stallworth and Irene McKerson; sisters, Irene Franks, Gladys Thompson and Janet Treece; and brothers, Everett, Lieutenant and Richard.
Serving as bearers will be Roy J. Thurston II, Johnny Franks, Luke A. Stevenson, Alfred R. McKerson, Kenneth Curry and Billy Hurte.
