Son of Lois Rounds and Solomon Owen. Someone reported he was a Revolutionary War Veteran, but he was not even alive during that era, 1775-1783.

Husband of Elizabeth "Betsy" Davis.

Resided in Winter Quarters 3rd Ward with his wife and younger children.

Father of Lucinda Amanda Owen 1819-1893 (md. 1. Ozias Loomis Tyler & md. 2. John Bair); Belinda Jane Owen 1822-1847 (md. John Bair); Francis Marion Owen 1830-1889 (md. Mary Elizabeth Taylor); Emmeline Owen 1833-1921 (md. Levi Taylor); Amanda Elizabeth Owen 1837-?; and Abel Owen, Jr., who died young.

Exact location of his grave is undiscovered. There is no stone or record of the location, although the death is recorded here in the Winter Quarters 3 Ward; it is one of the "unknown burials" interred here.

This Abel did not die in Nauvoo, his 5 year old son, Abel Jr. died there in 1845, before the family left for Winter Quarters. There has been confusion on that burial because the lad was recorded as "50" years old, rather than the correct age of 5 years old.
