Julia Sophronia Feazel was the daughter of Jeremiah Feazel and Hannah Murphy Feazel. The father engaged in school teaching and farming and thus provided for his family, which numbered six sons and six daughters. The family removed from Ohio to Lacon township, three miles east of Lacon, Illinois. Here he bought a farm.


On September 5, 1844 Julia S. Feazel and George Venton Crossland were married. He was born 1822 in Penn. and settled in Marshall Co, Ill. He was a cooper. They had two sons: Rudolphus Douglas Crossland born December 24,1845. The child died July 5, 1847. Another son, Hiram Venton Crossland, was born April 29, 1848. As an adult Hiram V. Crossland taught school and had a stock farm. He married Cynthia Lovinia Broaddus, the daughter of Christopher Broaddus and Minerva Hall Broaddus. They had the following children: George Marshall, Cynthia Venton, Viola June, Hiram Edward, and Julia. Hiram and Cynthia are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Watseka, Iroquois County, Ill.

The 1850 census of Marshall Co.,Illinois lists George V. Crossland, Julia S. Crossland and Hiram Crossland living in the house of Jeremiah and Hannah Feazel that were the parents of Julia Sophronia.

As reported in early Oregon Death Newspapers, Portland, Oregon abstracts Vol l: 1846-1861 Geo. V. Crossland, formerly of Lacon, Marshall County, Illinois died in Oregon City on the 12th of hemoplesia (January 12, 1851).
The widowed Julia lived with her parents in Varna, Marshall Co., Ill. until she married Alfred Wright the next year.

Julia and Alfred Wright were united in marriage February 1, 1852 in Marshall County, Ill. Alfred was the son of Ira and Anna Blair Wright that settled from Madison County, Ohio to Marshall County, Illinois in 1844. Alfred Wright's brother, James Wright and wife Lockey Meade Bell had a daughter named Anna Eliza Wright. She married Jeremiah Feazel JR.,that was the brother of Julia Sophronia Feazel.

Julia and Alfred Wright had three children: Curtis Feazel Wright, James W.Wright, and Alfred Alexander Wright. Alfred raised his step-son,Hiram Venton Crossland along with his own sons.

Julia died September 22, 1909 in Varna at 8:30 Wednesday morning at the age of 83 yrs, 2 months and 15 days. The funeral was held at the residence on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Internment was at Varna. The undertaker A. B. Smith of Henry had charge of the burial. The service which was conducted by Mr. S. W. McCullough, was brief and the W. L. C. quartet sang. Those present from a distance were Alfred Alexander Wright of Houston, TX; Hiram V. Crossland of Watseki, sons of the deceased. Ed Gants and wife from Wenona, Rev. and Mrs. Rudolph of LaRose, the Reeder and Croft families from Streator, Mrs. Lizzie Ramsey, Miss Anna Manoch, Andrew Feazle of Lacon, beside many others.

Jeremiah Feazel was born 5/23/1783 in Virginia and died 7/1/1859 in Marshall Co., Illinois. Married to Hannah Murphy on 7/18/1811 in Columbiana Co., Ohio.
