Burma Ruth Cooksey Gaunt a long time resident of Woodstown, NJ, passed away suddenly on May 17, 2010, at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County after a brief hospitalization. Burma was born in Omega, GA, on June 17, 1925, and graduated from high school in Sylvester, GA. After the death of her father in 1943, she moved to Swedesboro, NJ with her sister, Lucille, and was soon followed by her sister, Lorraine. When she was eighteen years old, she began an apprenticeship with E.I. DuPont in Deepwater, NJ, and was employed there for thirty nine years, retiring as an analytical laboratory technician.

Burma lived in Woodstown for many years and was very active in the community. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. She served on the Board of the Woodstown Day Care for several years. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Woodstown and was a past president of that organization. Burma was an avid reader and a self-educated lady who also volunteered her time at the Woodstown Public Library for many years. Her thirst for knowledge, love of literature and the arts and of fine cooking and dining was very influential to many people over the years, especially her nieces and nephew. She enjoyed card games of all types, but Bridge was her favorite, and she belonged to several Bridge clubs in the area. She was also an artist, and many of her works grace the homes of family and friends.
