Donald Lee Adams was born on Monday; May 16, 1938 in Iowa City; Johnson County, Iowa. He was the son of: Leonard M. Adams and Adeline Mae (Livengood) Adams. Donald was raised in southwest Iowa, primarily in Red Oak; Montgomery County, Iowa and attended school in the Red Oak school district. He served his country in the Iowa National Guard from December, 1958 to July, 1969. He was married to Joan Lenz on February 11, 1961 in Bellevue, Nebraska. Don enjoyed bowling, golf, gardening, dancing and his grandchildren. He spent many years as an over the road truck driver, and most recently had Adams Upholstery in Red Oak until his retirement. Don took great pride in repairing any flag brought to him at no charge for many years. He was featured in an Iowa Public Television episode that highlighted the Montgomery County Court of Honor's 1,000th flag dedication the year he was president of the Court of Honor. Don was a member of the American Legion Post Lorraine Post #67, Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Court of Honor and an honorary member of the Red Oak Fire Department. Donald Lee Adams, age 72, passed away on Monday; July 19, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His daughters: Michele (Tony) Johnson of Red Oak, Iowa; Lisa (Willie) Judd of Kennewick, Washington and Teri (Doug) Freund of Atlantic, Iowa. His grandchildren: Shelby (Brent) Applegate of Emerson, Iowa; Blaine and Canden Johnson of Red Oak, Iowa; Christine (Tom) Potolicchio; Joey Judd, and Melody (Eddy) Priest, all of Kennewick, Washington and Brandi, Sammy and Adam Freund of Atlantic, Iowa. His four great-grandchildren. His brothers: Richard "Dick" (Jody) Adams of Red Oak, Iowa; Leonard, Jr. (Karen) Adams of Fort Myers, Florida and his sisters: Karen (Cecil) Clark of Red Oak, Iowa and Janice (Jerry) Jensen of Johnston, Iowa. A special friend: Phyllis Norris of Red Oak, Iowa. Also his nieces, nephews and a host of many friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Adeline and his "Pop" Charles Max Allen. His two brothers: Lowell and William "Bill" Adams and his two sisters: Mabel Adams and Charlotte Allen. May they rest in peace. May God bless his memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be from: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday; July 22, 2010 at the Sellergren~Lindell~DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak, Iowa. A private inurnment will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa at a later date. Memorials to the Court of Honor.
