Well-Known Macon Man Succumbs to Long Illness
S. I. Dennard, well known merchant and farmer, died at his residence on the Columbus road yesterday morning at 4:15 o'clock. Mr.' Dennard had been in failing health several months, but was confined to his bed only a week.
Mr. Dennard Came to this city 26 years ago. He engaged in the hotel business, later going into the mercantile business and farming.
He was 79 years of age and was born in Twiggs county May 18, 1849. Mr. Dennard was a member of the Ebenezer Methodist church.
Surviving are his wife, who was Miss Elizabeth Edmondson; one daughter and two sons, Mrs. R. E. Solomon, of Macon; W. M. Dennard, of Tallahassee, Fla.; and S. E. Dennard, of the Coleman Motor company of this city; one sister, Mrs. M. S. Stinson, Of Dublin, Ga., and a brother, Tom Dennard, of Gordon, Ga.
The deceased was tax collector of Wilkinson county several years before coming here. His parents were the late William M. Dennard and Martha Veal Pennard, of Twiggs county.
Funeral services will be held at Hart's chapel this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. J. W. Lilly and Rev. J. A. Rountree officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. The following will be pall bearers: George A. Anderson, J. M. Chambers, Prof. J. C. Sorrell, J. C. Alexander, James Causey and J. A. Young. Published in The Macon Telegraph, November 2, 1928.
