"D. M. Durrett (David Marshall Durrett, husband of Sarah [Sallie] Rogers) Confederate veteran and one of the oldest citizens of Bibb County died very suddenly at his home, 206 Church Street, East Macon, early yesterday morning. Though in feeble health for several years Mr. Durrett's death was unexpected and he has been in apparently good health for the past few days. He tended the meeting of the Voluntee¬rs' ex-members Association last Friday night and seemed at that time to be in fairly good health. His death was due to heart failure and old age.
"Mr. Durrett was one of the few survivors of the Civil War, who enlisted as a member of the Macon Volunteers under Capt. R. A. Smith. He was a prominent Mason being a member of Lodge No. 5 F. & A. M. and also of St Omer Commandery, Knights Teplars. He is survived by one son, R. R. Durrett (Robert Rogers Durrett), and one daughter, Mrs. William Hazlehurst (Laura Edna Durrett Hazlehurst), both of Macon. The funeral will be held at the residence this Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. John S. Bunting, of Christ Church, officiating. The interment will be made in Riverside Cemetery."
